Looking after coloured hair

Hi!
Looking after your hair once it’s been dyed can be a challenge, especially if it’s been dyed ginger or red. Not only do you need to keep your hair healthy but you need to maintain the colour as well.

With having my hair dyed ginger twice (which I love BTW) I know the struggle of trying to stop the colour from fading.

  

Here are the products I use to maintain the colour and look after my hair when it’s been coloured.

Schwarzkopf colour protect shampoo

I always find that using shampoo specifically for coloured hair helps to stop the colour from fading as quickly. I’ve been using the Schwarzkopf colour protect shampoo and it has done a great job of stopping the colour fading quickly. The shampoo is supposed to stop the colour from fading for at least 10 weeks, whilst I don’t think that this is true it did help me maintain my coloured hair for longer (I’ll say about 6 weeks). As well as helping to maintain the colour, this shampoo also helps my hair to look shiny and it has a really nice smell as well!

L’Oreal colour protect conditioning protect spray

I was given this spray as a present the first time I had my hair dyed ginger. The L’Oreal spray is designed to keep your hair nourished, protect the colour. It can be used to detangle hair and can be used on either dry or wet hair. I tend to use this spray every other night before I wash my hair the next day. I found this spray really light and it doesn’t make my hair feel sticky, it also helped my hair to feel fresher (especially if I hadn’t washed it in a couple of days). This spray has really helped me to maintain the colour of my hair.

For anyone with coloured hair I would defiantly recommend these two products as they’ve really helped me. What products do you use to look after coloured hair?

My 6th form prom

Friday night was a very special night for me, as it was my 6th form’s prom! I had an amazing night and it was lovely to be with my year group for one final time.

Hair

I got my hair pinned up at my local hairdressers and my hairdresser did an amazing job. If you’ve been reading my blog for a while you’ll know how much I love the boho fashion style, so I wanted a boho prom hair style. I spent a while looking for photo’s on the internet and I eventually found one I really liked. My hairdresser did a fantastic job of getting my hair to look how it did in the photo.

Make up

For my make up I did it myself (took me 20 minutes) and I went for quite a natural look. However, although I’m capable of doing eyeliner I asked my mum to do it for me so it would look perfect.

My prom outfit wasn't new as I've had the dress and shoes for a couple of years now. However I really wanted to wear this dress for prom as it's summery and is elegant. 

Our prom was held at Judges which is a lovely country house hotel. The food was really nice as well (BBQ food). I had such a fab evening dancing with everyone and being with everyone, I danced for about 3 hours in my heels and my feet were dead the next day. It was one of my best nights and I wouldn’t change it for the world!

A new hairstyle...

       Firstly a Merry Christmas Eve eve, I'm also sorry for not blogging in a while, I've been super busy (I think one of my new year's resolutions will be to blog more!).

On Monday I went to my local hairdressers to get my hair done and I've finally got it the way it want it (coppery/ginger, shoulder length with a fringe).

I'd been blonde for nearly 3 years and during the summer holidays I watched Switched at Birth and one of the main characters, Daphne, had ginger/ coppery hair.

I then fell in love with her hair colour and decided I wanted to dye my hair ginger as it looked beautiful. 

I also thought going ginger would suit me as I'm quite pale and by dying my hair it would bring out the warmness of my features.

Besides getting my hair dyed I had a Milk Mask Hot Towel treatment and it was HEAVEN! It was super relaxing and it made my hair a) smell lush b) feel soft and silky.

As I hadn't had my hair hadn't been cut in a while I needed a bit cutting off so I got it cut up to shoulder length (which I prefer anyway as it makes my hair easy to manage) My hairdresser also convinced me to get a "sweepy" fringe put in, so I now have a fringe as well.

Overall I love my new hair as this is how I've wanted it for ages and the colour really suits me.

Healthy,Happy Hair

      Yesterday I got my hair cut and it felt so good to have it cut as the last time I had it cut was just a couple of days before christmas!

I got my hair cut at Two Moons hairdressing salon (my local hairdresser), I love going there as its a lovely salon and the staff there are super friendly.  

Before yesterday my hair was practically dead, full of split ends and felt like straw (not a pretty site). However I got a deep conditioning treatment put on my hair, which is like a mousse and some argan oil (its called a conditioning cocktail and it smells super yummy and amazing). My hair feels so much softer and healthier now and I can still smell the treatment in my hair as well.

My hair was quite long but as it was so dead I got it cut up to my shoulders and had it put in a bob.

I love my new hairstyle as my hair looks and feels a million times better and I'm hoping that by having my hair in a bob it wont go everywhere when I wear it down.

               Wow its the 1st of May already which means it's 10 days til my exams (ahhh :( ) and 21 days until they are all over ( YAY :) ). 

I know this post is a day late but here are my april favourites

Carex Strawberry Laces Hand Wash

This is one of my favourite hand washes, mainly because its pink. This hand wash smells amazing and it lasts as well. Also it lathers really easy and leaves my hands feeling soft afterwards. I'm definitely going to buy some more when I run out.

Strawberry Cupcake Hand Cream

I saw this hand cream being introduced in Superdrug so I decided to pick on up and see if it was any good (I also managed to buy it at the introductory price as well). The packaging is really cute and pretty. The actual hand cream has a really sweet smell and does a great job of moisturizing my hands. They feel really soft and smell lovely.

Body Scrub

I got this in the big Soap and Glory gift set for Christmas. This has a sharp fruity smell to it (which reminds me of lemonade floats). This does a great job of exfoliating my body and I've been really pleased with the results so far.

Dove Gradual Tanner

I used a gradual tanner last year and it went patchy and gave me orange hands (yes I accidentally forgot to wash them after apply). However I wanted to give it another go as I have very pale skin so I picked up this one. In just a few days it gave me a tan that looked great and natural at the same time without going patchy. I apply it evenly on my body just after a bath or a shower.

Aussie- Shampoo and Conditioner

I'm on a misson to find the perfect shampoo and conditioner and after hearing many great reviews about these two I decided to pick up some mini ones to test. These have made a massive difference to my hair. My hair feels much more softer and silkier and it also smells fabulous. I loved these I actually bought the big bottles as well.

Shopping Haul

               Today I went shopping in York (favourite city in the Uk because the shops are so unique and its beautiful) and had a great time (even though it rained for part of the day). Here is what I bought

Right- Black crop top- Ark  £6 (sale)

Ark is a funky clothes shop I just discovered today in York and I want to buy the whole store. Whilst browsing I spotted this jumpsuit in the sale and fell in love with it. I love velvet and the pattern on it's gorgeous. However the jumpsuit is very low cut so I bought I top to wear underneath it

Sailor Moon Key ring- Give the dog a bone £5.99

Not going to lie I'm a MASSIVE fan of Sailor Moon. When i spotted that Give a dog a bone had just started selling some merchandise I knew this key ring would be perfect so I bought it. I have know put it on my keys with all my other key rings.

Dove intensive repair shampoo and conditioner- Boots £2.69

Currently I'm on a mission to find a shampoo and conditioner that suits my hair as it gets dry at the end but also greasy. I had read a good review of this product and when I saw they we on offer I decided to purchase them. Hopefully they will make my hair stronger and softer without it going greasy.

Natural Collection nail varnish- £1.99

I'm also on a mission to own as much nail varnish as I possibly can. I wanted a berry coloured and a pale pink varnish so when I spotted these I knew they would be perfect. I can't wait to try them out

Think Pink bath bomb- Lush £2.65

Lush is one of my favourite shops and I always love spending ages smelling all the bath bombs. I picked up one of my old favourites, think pink bath bomb, as it was the cheapest and smells so nice. It turns the bath water bright pink and there are even little pink love hearts inside it now. Can't wait to use it on one of my pamper evenings.

My Hair Story

       Sorry for not blogging in a while. I've been busy with college work (and still am) and temporarily had no wifi for a week.

Tonight I thought I would share my hair story with you as over the years it's changed a lot.

My natural hair is fine and the colour brown. Up until the age of 8 I had long hair until I got it cut.

Before I went into year 4 I got my hair cut to shoulder length and it stayed like that up until I left primary school.

When I started secondary school I got my hair cut into a bob shape and kept it straight. It was a bit annoying at times as it wouldn't always go straight and there wasn't much I could do with my hair.

Then halfway through year 8 I got my hair cut super short (above my ears practically) as when I saw photo's models with cropped hair looked amazing. So at the time I loved having super short hair but looking back I now hated it.

My hair stayed short for the next couple of years. Halfway through year 10 I got blonde highlights put in my hair. I loved having my highlights as it made my hair lighter and they looked fab.

Shortly afterwards I decided I wanted to grow my hair out. So i started the long process of growing it out and slowly it began to get longer.

When I broke up for summer holidays I dyed my hair pink which I absolutely loved!!! However it only lasted 4 days because a) it was only a temporary dye and b) My hair was quite dark so it faded pretty quickly (*sobs*)

A week after dying my hair pink I dyed it bleach blonde the day before I went on holiday. It then stayed this colour for the rest of the summer holidays. Despite it looking ok and me enjoying having blonde hair this was a BIG MISTAKE.

The day before I went into year 11 I got my hair dyed professionally at the hairdressers. They removed the blonde and dyed it lighter than my natural hair colour with blonde highlights. At this point my hair was a honey colour which I absolutely loved and it was beginning to get longer. My hair pretty much stayed like this for a year and a half whilst getting longer and longer.

Last year a week before October half term I was due to get my hair re dyed so I decided to dye it pink in the mean time. Also I can have non natural coloured hair for college so this was another reason I dyed it. Again I loved having my hair pink and it only lasted a week (this was because it was getting re dyed anyway otherwise it would have lasted much longer with my hair being lighter).

I then got it dyed back to the colour I normally get it dyed and this is my current hair. Hopefully in the near future I will dye my hair pink again (although I'll just do it semi permanently). I'm very happy with the colour of my hair and all I want is to keep growing my hair so its gets longer (and I will be able to go out without it frizzing and ATM I don't like wearing my hair down because of that)

               Well the first month of 2015 is nearly over and for me its been a very busy month for me. I had my mock exams when I went back to college but they mostly went ok. 

Anyway last year I didn't do my monthly favourites but after looking at several on different blogs I decided I'm going to give it a go this year. Here are my January favourite products

Argan Hair Oil

Price: £6.99

My hair is dyed and although I try hard to look after my hair the ends can feel rather dry. I had read a couple of great reviews about this product so when I saw it on offer in Tesco I decided to buy some. This product is amazing and has completely transformed my hair! The ends of my hair now feel soft and well nourished and it makes my hair smell fab as well. Also you only need to use a tiny blob at a time.

Miss Manga Mascara

Price: £8.99

I had used this before and loved it but unfortunately I ran out. However I was very lucky because on christmas day I received 2 in my stocking. This mascara is my favourite as it makes my lashes look really long and gives them tonnes of volume. Its very easy to apply (especially as it has a flexi brush). All I would say is use a tissue to take excess mascara off the brush before you start.

Carmex Lip Balm

Price: £2.69

Like with the mascara I also got a pot of carmex in my stocking. Carmex is my saving grace as it's the only lip balm I have ever known to work for me. My lips can sometimes get quite dry and Carmex does at brilliant job at soothing them.

Eco Tools Make Up Brushes

Price for pack of 6: £11.99

During the christmas holidays I decided to finally buy some proper make up brushes rather than use cheap ones. I was keen to try the eco tools ones as they are environmentally friendly. I did buy a pack of 6 but I'm currently only using 2. The smallest one I use to apply my eye-shadow and it works wonders as it makes it really easy to apply. The big one I use to apply my blusher and again it makes applying my make up very easy. Also the brushes have a cute pattern on them.

Lush Snow Fairy

Price: £3.50 (roughly)

I know christmas is over but I always buy a bottle of Snow Fairy every year and I'm currently still using it in the shower. It's a bright pink candy colour that is all sparkly and glittery. However my favourite thing about snow fairy is its scent which is candy floss.
